Dear Friends,

Church law requires that pastors give a report each year to their parishioners on how the financial gifts given to the parish were used. I do not see this responsibility as a burden, but as an opportunity to share with you the amazing things God has done through us and with us this past fiscal year.

You will notice that the report has more photos of the activities of this past year than it has details of the finances. The last few pages of this report give a breakdown of the parish’s Financial Position and a report of the Revenue and Expenses of the past fiscal year. If you would like a detailed report of the finances, please call the parish office and we will send you as detailed of a report as you desire. There are no secrets when it comes to parish finances, the books are open and available for any parishioner to see.

This past year has been one of wonder-filled progress for the parish – preserving its past glory and preparing for a hope-filled future. The parish embarked on several projects, like the bell tower work, which honored the rich tradition the parish holds as Omaha’s first parish. Its purchase of the Christ Child building prepared the way for the parish to offer so much more in terms of educational and social opportunities for parishioners than were possible in the past.

The parish also made it a priority to connect every parishioner with the work of the church. St. Frances Cabrini has a long tradition of parishioners stepping forward and taking responsibility for caring for each other and for the parish buildings. That tradition continues to flourish with parishioners offering their time and talent in all aspect of parish life. So let me say to you, as I say to everyone in the parish, if you feel God tugging at you to get involved in some way, please call the parish office and let us know what you would like to do.

I have truly enjoyed my first year as your pastor. While using older buildings can have its frustrating moments (like chasing leaks around the church roof), it also has a holiness that comes from years of prayer happening in that place. I have also found this community to be very welcoming. You welcomed me into your spiritual lives and have let me share mine with you. Jesus makes us brothers and sisters. I have felt that sense of family from you and for that I am grateful.

So, if one word sums up this annual report, the word is “thanks”. Thank you for being a place where the Spirit of Jesus is alive. Thank you for your generosity and for trusting me to be your pastor.

Peace,

Fr. Damian Zuerlein
